Taylor Swift‘s Eras Tour broke records, boosted local economies, and changed the lives of Swifties all over the world throughout its 21-month run. The concert featured nostalgic callbacks to each of Swift’s iconic eras, from “Fearless” to “The Tortured Poets Department,” which was added to the show after the album’s release in April 2024. However, one important era—Swift’s self-titled first album, which fans have lovingly dubbed Debut—was noticeably left off of the setlist.

The country album, which was released in October 2006, featured Swift’s early bops like “Tim McGraw,” “Teardrops on My Guitar,” “Our Song,” and “Picture to Burn,” to name a handful. With those tracks putting the singer-songwriter on the map at only 16 years old, it was a surprise to OG fans when she opted to leave the entire album off of her Eras Tour setlist, with the exception of an occasional surprise song in her acoustic section.

When it comes to Swift, there is no such thing as an oversight. Everything she does, from costumes to Instagram posts to hidden messages, is done with intention—and because of that, many Swifties held out hope that she would address the controversial decision to not give her debut album the flowers it deserves in her Disney+ docuseries, The End of an Era, which dropped its final two episodes today.

Why wasn’t Taylor Swift’s debut album included in The Eras Tour?

Unfortunately, Swift did not disclose her thought process behind the setlist, nor why she decided not to give Debut its own section on the tour. Many have speculated that her acoustic set—featuring just Swift, her guitar (the same Grand Auditorium model with a koa wood body from Taylor Guitars that she’s been performing with for nearly 20 years, mind you), and her piano—was an ode to her early days as a up-and-coming solo artist, but the singer has yet to actually comment on why those songs were left out.

However, Episode 6, titled “Remember This Moment,” did show Swift practicing a small part of “A Place in This World,” which she sang during the acoustic set on the last night of the Eras Tour in Vancouver. There was also some rare footage of Swift’s early days as an artist, including a clip of her singing “Our Song” a cappella, in Episode 5, titled “Marjorie.”

While Swift didn’t talk much about her setlist in the final two episodes, she did let fans in on what went on behind the scenes of the final shows of The Eras Tour (yes, it was her mom Andrea Swift’s idea to change the lyrics in “Long Live” from “it was the end of a decade” to “it was the end of an era” in the final show).
