Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed the most expensive item he’s ever bought – a €50 million , while drawing parallels between becoming a billionaire and winning football’s most prestigious individual honour, the Ballon d’Or.

The 40-year-old Al-Nassr captain, whose net worth reportedly hit $1.4 billion in October 2025 after signing the richest contract in sports history, now earns an extraordinary £178 million per year.

The deal, which includes a £24.5 million signing-on fee, has sealed his status as the first footballer to officially become a billionaire.

Ronaldo on luxury, wealth, and discipline

Speaking on Piers Morgan Uncensored, the Portuguese star said his priciest purchase remains a Bombardier Global Express 6500, adding that while he can afford almost anything, he spends selectively.

“The most expensive thing I’ve ever bought? An aeroplane, yes,” Ronaldo said. “I’ve had my aeroplane since I was 30, but I changed it a year ago, so it was a bit expensive. I can buy whatever I want, but I don’t need it.”

He revealed that he treats cars more like investments than indulgences, admitting he doesn’t even know how many he owns.

“Honestly, if I had to bet, I’d say 41 or 42,” he said. “I love Bugattis, they’re different beasts, but I don’t drive much anymore. Cars are no longer a passion.”

“Becoming a billionaire felt like winning a Ballon d’Or”

Reflecting on his financial achievement, Ronaldo described reaching billionaire status as one of his personal goals outside football

“It was like winning a Ballon d’Or,” he said. “I’m not obsessed with money, but I was very happy to reach that number. It was one of my goals, besides football, trophies, Ballon d’Ors, Champions League titles. At 39, I reached it, and I was proud.”

He added that his financial success doesn’t surprise him: “If you look at the records, I’m at the top in football, so it’s just another one. I knew my potential both in football and outside of it.”

On retirement, Ronaldo said he’s emotionally preparing for the inevitable end, acknowledging it will be a difficult transition.

“It will be tough. I’ll probably cry, I cry easily,” he admitted. “But I’ve been preparing since I was 25. I’ll spend more time with my family, watch UFC, play padel, and focus on my businesses. I’ll never be a YouTuber, but I’ll explore other things.”

The veteran striker is expected to return to action for Al-Nassr on Wednesday when they face India’s FC Goa in the AFC Champions League Two in Riyadh.
