JOKIĆ SPOTTED SAINT GEORGE ON A $19,000 JACKET! He was stunned by the stunning detail worn by an NBA star! Only 10 pieces exist — and here’s why it was made.

Nikola Jokić was left in disbelief when he noticed Saint George on Karl-Anthony Towns’ jacket.

A viral video shows the Denver center explaining to the American star that the design on the back was a “Serbian thing.” Towns appeared confused as Jokić pointed out the religious and cultural reference.

The jacket Towns wore arriving at the All-Star Game featured the motif “Saint George Slaying the Dragon.” After the game, he was asked about it. Although Towns said 25 were made, the brand later revealed only 10 pieces were actually produced.

The model was specially created to mark the brand’s 10th anniversary and reportedly costs — or cost — $19,000.

“I got it from Aimé Leon Dore, it was special. As far as I know, they made only 25 of them,” Towns said, before adding:

“It was done in collaboration with Jeff Hamilton — shoutout to him. I really love the jacket, it’s a true work of art. I love the stitching, the details, the pattern. I got a custom piece made in my size. I honestly didn’t know it was part of Serbian heritage. I’ll have to refresh my history lessons. Shoutout to Jokić, thanks to him — I guess I need to study up.”

The front features the silhouette of New York City, while the back displays a fresco of Saint George from the Monastery of Saint Anthony, according to Highsnobiety, which spoke with designer Jeff Hamilton.

“Every little piece is hand-cut, hand-stitched, and hand-glued. Then sewn with a single needle. I always love creating a piece of art. I handwrite notes on it, place leather here, crocodile there — sometimes I even make a mistake and scratch it so you can see the process in the final product,” said Hamilton, described by the outlet as “a true institution of streetwear.”

The Saint George fresco referenced dates back to the 13th century (between 1255 and 1260). The Monastery of Saint Anthony, one of the oldest Christian monasteries, was founded in the 4th century.

It is located near the Red Sea coast, about 300 kilometers southeast of Cairo, close to the cave where Saint Anthony the Great lived as a hermit. The monastery is famous for its Coptic frescoes from the 12th and 13th centuries, including depictions of Saint George, Archangel Michael, the apostles, and early desert fathers.

Within its walls are several churches, a defensive tower, refectories, and monks’ cells. The main church is dedicated to Saint Anthony.

The monastery remains active today and is an important pilgrimage site for Coptic Christians, who make up between 10 and 20 percent of Egypt’s population and are considered descendants of ancient Egyptians.

Saint George is traditionally depicted as a symbol of faith triumphing over evil. In Serbia, he is honored on Đurđevdan (St. George’s Day), celebrated on May 6 — which explains Jokić’s reaction when he saw the jacket worn by Karl-Anthony Towns.
