The New York Mets are looking at an active offseason ahead.
If a new trade idea from MLB.com’s Anthony Castrovince were to come true, it’d be even more intriguing than expected.
Castrovince has come up with a three-team trade possibility that includes the Mets, Seattle Mariners and St. Louis Cardinals.
The Mets end up with Nolan Arenado, the third baseman from the Cardinals, as well as Jurrangelo Cijntje, a promising Mariners prospect who is a switch-pitcher (yes, he throws from both sides!).
The Mariners get Brendan Donovan from the Cardinals.

The Cardinals get Mariners star outfield prospect Lazo Montes as well as Mets pitching prospect Camden Lohman.
At first glance, this is a fun deal for the Mets if they decide they don’t mind paying Arenado all the money he’s still due.
New York getting Cijntje would be awesome just for the vibes that come with a potential switch-pitcher.

The Cardinals certainly wouldn’t mind getting out of Arenado’s contract.
It’d be an odd deal for Seattle, though. Donovan isn’t good enough to offset the massive upside of Montes and the intriguing future of Cijntje.
Castrovince tried to figure out the finances in his explanation of the trade projection.

“Here, the Mets take on the $37 million owed to Arenado through 2027,” Castrovince writes. “While his bat has sagged, Arenado’s glove is a hot corner upgrade for a Mets team clearly focused on run-prevention (as evidenced by their trade for Semien). And to offset some of the financial burden they’re (ably) taking on, the Mets add the intriguing switch-pitcher Cijntje to their system.”
It sounds like Arenado wants to be traded, so don’t be surprised if that happens this offseason, even if it’s not in a three-team wild setup like this.
